Operating COVID safe Waterside & Marina locations

Latest update 12 April 2021

Monday 12th April marks another milestone date in our roadmap out of lockdown.

We continue to follow the industry guidance set by British Marine, on the reopening of the marine industry in line with Government advice, which you can find at https://britishmarine.co.uk/Services/Representation-and-Promotion/Industry-Campaigns/Coronavirus.

For your ease we have summarised the roadmap out of lockdown below.

Table1

Latest update 8 March 2021

Following the Government’s announcement on Monday 22nd February of the planned ease out of lockdown, like you, we have been eagerly waiting to understand how this impacts us all and what it means for boating.

We now have industry guidance set by British Marine, on the reopening of the marine industry in line with Government advice, which you can find at https://britishmarine.co.uk/Services/Representation-and-Promotion/Industry-Campaigns/Coronavirus

For your ease we have also clipped the table below that applies to the use of private boats.

In essence this means that from 8 March, according to Government and industry federation advice, you may return to visit your boat on the marina, and to perform checks as required, but the waterways will not yet be open.

From 29 March it is currently anticipated that the waterways will be open. However, all current Government advice remains subject to change as we know, and we will update this page again prior to 29 March to confirm any prevailing Government and industry federation advice at that time.

Latest update 05 January 2021

Further to the latest Government announcement on 4th January regarding managing the COVID-19 pandemic, now that we are in national lockdown across England, we would like to confirm the following procedures that will now be in place across all Aquavista marinas nationwide. As the Government has now disallowed all unnecessary travel across the UK the service provision across our marinas is now focused on residential mooring customers only, with other customers now mandated to stay at home by the Government.

As ever, our priority continues to be looking after our customers as well as our team members, maintaining the health, safety, and social distancing regulations which we already have in place. In this way we can continue to operate safely, and be in a ready state to respond to any additional changes mandated by the Government over the next weeks and months.

Please do be mindful though, that our marina guidance is not intended to be a replacement for the full and official Government advice which can be found here and which we recommend you read fully and absorb :  https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home.

With immediate effect the following procedures will be in place across Aquavista marinas – however you must take personal responsibility for your own actions.

  • Stay at home as mandated by the Government - you must not leave or be outside of the place you are living except for the following essential reasons : visiting a food shop or pharmacy, work if it is unreasonable for you to do your job at home, exercise, and medical reasons. These rules apply equally to people living on boats, and just in the same way that they would apply to people living in any other type of dwelling. Therefore we do need our residential customers to stick to this to avoid the unintentional spread of the virus. Please stay on your boats unless you need to exit for one of the above reasons
  • No overnight stays away from your main residence are permitted unless for one of the reasons as set out by the Government
  • If you are a leisure customer, therefore, and if you would like us to make any checks on your boat in your absence, please contact your marina team and we will be pleased to do so
  • If you are a residential customer we require you to use your in boat toilet and shower facilities at all times and regardless of whether you are self-isolating or not. In the exceptional case where you do not have these facilities on board, our shower and toilet facilities remain open to you
  • If you are a residential customer chemical toilet disposal, pump out facilities and laundry facilities will remain open (with some restrictions in place), however if you find others using the facilities when you arrive, please maintain the 2m distance rule and stand back until they have finished
  • If you are a residential customer on marina it is against the law to meet socially with anyone unless they are part of your household or support bubble, or unless that is for exercise with one other person from one other household
  • Our marina offices will remain open to meet any urgent customer needs, but are not open to any non urgent needs and our opening hours can be found on the marina office door. Please phone or email the marina team in preference and we will respond remotely. It is important for health and safety that person to person contacts are minimised in this period as mandated by the Government.
  • If you have any essential works already scheduled on your boat which may still be required to take place at the marina, this should be discussed with the marina crew in advance before this work may commence
  • The Aquavista brokerage crew will operate COVID safe property viewings; however other viewings and enquiries will be handled online
  • Aquavista workshops, boat lifting and boat yard services can still operate following strict COVID risk assessments requirements, but please be sure to follow all Government advice if you are using these services.

Please also remember that if you start to display COVID-19 symptoms you must let the marina team know immediately so we can put in place our established health and safety procedures to avoid the unintentional spread of the virus. As a reminder, this means that if you are a residential customer, you must inform the marina team by phone or email as soon as you or a household member start to display COVID-19 symptoms. This allows us to manage our responses and reduce the risk of spread of the virus.  Please isolate at your primary residence.

If we have to make any changes to the above following any additional Government mandates, we will be back in touch urgently.

Thank you to all of you at this time of continued uncertainty. We urge you to stay safe and ensure that we all remain focused on protecting your health and those of all around you.

Latest update 6 November 2020

Aquavista have been seeking industry and Government advice as to how the latest Government restrictions connected with the national lock down affect your use of our marina services.

Government restrictions stipulate that we must all stay at home and avoid travel except for a few limited ‘essential’ reasons. Please consider this when reading our update and before considering whether a visit to one of our marinas is essential. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november#stay-at-home

  • Our Waterside & Marina offices remain open to our marina customers to provide essential services such as parcel and post collection, electricity and pump out tokens – COVID safe measures must be followed.
  • Overnight stays are not allowed for leisure customers, in line with Government restrictions.
  • Brokerage services will remain open for enquiries via telephone and email
  • Sawley Waterside & Marina shop and chandlery will remain open for essential purchases, and telephone and collect services will also be available.
  • Glasson Waterside & Marina chandlery will remain open only for telephone and collect orders
  • Our locks will remain open only for emergency and essential movements, and business use, by pre-booking only
  • Boat lifting services will continue for customers who already have a booking; and during the lock down period enquiries and bookings can continue to be made, however, customers must not attend the lift in person
  • Our boatyards and hardstanding remain open to customers, but for essential maintenance only. This follows guidance from British Marine and DEFRA which states ‘they do not consider private individuals visiting their boats for maintenance or winterisation purposes as an essential activity for leaving their primary place of residence’.
  • Our Glasson marina workshop remains open for enquiries and booked work. This follows guidance from DEFRA which confirms that ‘a member of the public can pay a business to maintain their boat on their behalf during the lockdown’.
  • Please remember that if you start to display COVID-19 symptoms, you must let the marina team know immediately via phone or email
  • If you can avoid visiting the marina, on the grounds of it not being essential travel, please do so as this will help further keep our marina residents safe.

Current Government guidance does not provide complete clarity, and we will continue to update you, our customers, based on further developments. However please also remember that the Canal and River Trust have advised that navigation on the waterways will be restricted in support of the Government guidance to avoid non-essential travel.

We will continue to provide updates and guidance as this is issued.

Updated 16 October 2020

Following the latest Government announcements regarding the new 3 tier system, we wanted to reassure you that we continue to review our COVID safe operating procedures in line with Government advice and designed to keep you, other customers and our team members safe while on the marina.

At present none of our marinas fall under the Tier 3 ‘Very High’ regulations, therefore whilst our advice and recommendations remain as below we would advise you check the full and latest Government guidance at https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus regarding different geography across the UK before making a trip.

At Aquavista, we are here to help our customers discover and enjoy the very best of waterside life. Our ambition is for each of our marinas to deliver a memorable waterside experience, provide outstanding service and great facilities which you can be confident are managed in a COVID aware environment.

All of our 18 Waterside & Marina locations have been risk assessed and are fully compliant with the Government Covid secure scheme. They have also all been certified under the Visit Britain ‘We’re good to go’ accreditation.

Acquiring this Industry Standard mark means that Aquavista business has followed government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, has a Risk Assessment in place and a process to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.

Throughout the pandemic our focus has been to look after our teams and provide the essential health and safety levels and services to our customers.

As we recognise that the pandemic is far from over there are some key points to adhere to at all times, if you are visiting one of our locations:

  1. Please refer to the latest Government advice around travel restrictions into and out of areas considered ‘Very High’
  2. Please call our marina crew ahead of your visit – our contact details can be found on each marina page
  3. If the marina you wish to visit is within a 'local lock down' please follow the guidance set out by the Government
  4. Please adhere to the 'rule of 6' and 'hands, face, space' behaviour
  5. Please follow 2 metres social distancing at all times (although the Government has relaxed social distancing 1 metre plus, we’d prefer to state a minimum distance)
  6. Please scan the NHS Test and Trace QR code on your arrival to the marina – you will find this at the marina entrance, jetty entrances and at the waterside & marina office
  7. If you are entering a jetty, please let others leave safely first
  8. Please continue to wash your hands regularly and make use of the hand sanitising stations in each of our marinas – and these are clearly signposted for your use and easy access.
  9. Our marinas offices will operate a one in one out policy, except for Apsley, Diglis, Poplar and Ripon Waterside & Marina, as they are smaller in size and will not be open to personal visits.
  10. Our marinas offices have Perspex screens on the counter and clear floor markings to easily enable the required social distancing
  11. Where we have shops and chandleries, please wear a face cover. Payment will also be limited to card in these areas.
  12. Whilst our shared facilities are open to all customers (showers, toilets, laundries etc), we recommend that to minimise numbers visiting these, customers use their own on board facilities wherever possible.
  13. Chemical toilet disposal, pump out facilities and laundry facilities are open (with some restrictions in place), however if you find others using the facilities when you arrive, please maintain the 2m distance rule and stand back until they have finished.
  14. Our outdoor social spaces are open for up to 6 different people from separate households, but please do not meet on jetties or boats
  15. Follow all guidance and signage in place – it is there to help us all stay COVID-19 aware
  16. If you are, or a household member is experiencing Covid 19 symptoms, or you are self-isolating for any reason, please do not visit our marina under any circumstances. Please stay at home and follow the Government advice. The same applies if you are required to isolate as part of the Government ‘Track and Trace’ programme.
  17. If you become symptomatic whilst visiting us, please let the marina team know immediately by email or phone and return home to self-isolate. This information is important, as we all have a clear duty to support the NHS Test and Trace
  18. If you are returning from countries abroad, please make sure that you follow Government guidance on self-isolating (where relevant) and self-isolate in your primary residence.
