Dutch Karis is a 57ft long x 6ft 10in wide Dutch Barge built by Dave Thomas in 2004. She is fitted with a Beta Marine inboard diesel engine and has 4 berths.

The inside is light and feels very spacious for a narrowboat because of the big windows, high ceilings & high gunwales. It's very unusual to have a narrowboat with 6"- 8" wide gunwales. These extra-wide gunwales, along with easy-grip handrails on the roof means it's one of the easiest, and therefore safest, narrowboats on the canal to move along externally.

Rare in canal boats & a big plus when cruising is the Travelpower ('travelpack') - A built-in diesel generator which not only provides 240v whilst the engine is running (can vacuum & use washing machine), it also avoids you using the inverter to provide 240v which is a big draw on the batteries.

Plenty of storage cupboards and deep solid wood drawers. The settee seats lift up to give storage underneath.

The wheelhouse roof does not need to be removed when cruising the length of the Grand Union. It takes 2 people to put the wheelhouse roof down and up and can be done in 10 minutes max.

Dave Thomas has designed the boat so that the width and height of the wheelhouse with the roof off and windows folded down are the same width and height as the front corners of the steel cabin. This helps when navigating low bridges and tunnels, cause if the bow goes through then the stern will!

The top step unhooks & comes away to give access to the forward part of the engine bay.

Additional storage under the wheelhouse floor.
